As the name itself indicates, a Submersible Motor pump is a fluid pumping unit that is submerged into the fluid that has to be conveyed. In this, the Submersible Motors have an air tight motor case (also known as hermetically sealed motor) coupled to main shaft of the pump. This type of pump has to only push the fluid and hence increasing its efficiency.
These Submersible Motor Pumps are single stage (single impeller) or multistage pumps (combination of two or more impellers) operating usually in vertical positions. Both the above mentioned subcategories have specific operations. Some of them are mentioned here.
Application of Single Phase Submersible Motor Pump: these pumps are widely used for sewage pumping, drain water pumping, slurry pumping and general industrial purposes.
Application of Multi Stage Submersible Motor Pump: these pumps are very commonly used in draw fresh water from boreholes (usually drinking purposes) in residential and commercial complexes, municipal and industrial water extraction from big openwell, fire fighting, mine dewatering and irrigation purposes.
Due to some inherent advantages, the Big Openwell Submersible Motor Pumps are replacing the conventional centrifugal pumps. An open well submersible motor pump need not have to change the position with changing water levels in sump or well. The main advantages being – cooling of motor, bearing and rotating parts are better hence a longer life is obtained, portable – can be shifted from one place to another as per requirement, suction head is eliminated and hence greater efficiency, self – priming pump – foot valve is not required, separate foundation not required.
Some of the small sized Open Well Submersible Motor Pumps operate in single phase i.e. power rating in range of 0.5 HP to 3.0 HP & voltage rating of 230 Volts and hence termed as Single Phase Open Well Submersible Motor Pumps. Some of the most common use of this type of pump is sprinkler systems, irrigation purposes, pond and canal irrigation etc. Some of the major advantage of Single Phase Open Well Submersible Motor Pumps is ease of installation, less maintenance, noiseless, vibration free, less power consumption due to high efficiency and are heavy duty pumps.
